India definitely seem to have an upper hand against Sri Lanka in terms of head-to-head statistics, winning 83 out of 138 ODIs (including the last five encounters) played between the two teams. Their solitary face-off at the Kennington Oval dates back to 2002 where India emerged victorious by four wickets.
Sri Lanka will be without their opening batsman Upul Tharanga who seemed to be in a good nick and his absence will make their top-order batting slightly more vulnerable. And even though Angelo Mathews has been declared fit, he won’t be bowling at all which means India will have one less experienced bowler to deal with. India don’t have a great ODI record at the Kennington Oval but they have won two of their previous three matches here. They do have a tremendous record against the Sri Lankans, beating them 11 times in their last 13 meetings. India definitely look the stronger of the two sides and we therefore predict them to win this game and move one step closer to the semi-finals.
