Cricket icon Sir Viv Richards, a revered figure from the West Indies, has shared his anticipation for the upcoming 2023 World Cup, scheduled to unfold in India from October 5 to November 19.
In a video featured on the official Instagram account of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sir Viv Richards unveiled his forecast for the tournament’s standout performance. He confidently named Pakistan’s skillful left-arm seamer, Shaheen Afridi, as the frontrunner for the leading wicket-taker title.
Speaking of Afridi’s journey, Richards lauded the remarkable strides the young seamer has taken. Reflecting on his observations during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Richards emphasized Afridi’s tremendous growth as a player.
Richards expressed his conviction, stating, “The leading wicket-taker in the World Cup will be Shaheen Afridi because I have seen him in Pakistan. I spent some time in the PSL and I have seen his massive growth. [He is a] highly determined individual. He is my man.”
Recently, New Zealand paceman Tim Southee, speaking at the Ceat Cricket Rating Award event, acknowledged the prowess of both Shaheen Afridi and Trent Boult. Southee commended their consistent ability to trouble batsmen, noting that Afridi and Boult have posed significant challenges for opponents throughout their careers.
