The 13th edition of the highly anticipated Big Bash T20 League is on the horizon, set to commence on December 7. This year, the league draws the attention of Bangladeshi cricketers, with three players throwing their hats into the ring for the upcoming players draft.

Bangladesh's Representation: Diverse Players for the Draft

The trio includes left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, emerging pacer Ripon Mondol, and women’s cricket stalwart Jahanara Alam. They have eagerly enlisted their names for the franchise league’s players draft, seeking the opportunity to make their mark on the grand stage of T20 cricket.

Global Participation: A Multinational Players Draft

Cricket Australia (CA) recently unveiled the names of 376 male cricketers hailing from 29 countries for the men’s draft. On the other hand, the women’s draft boasts 122 talented female cricketers. Both the men’s and women’s players draft for the Big Bash are set to unfold on an upcoming Sunday.

A Second Attempt: Ripon's Persistence

Ripon Mondol, who has only participated in two T20 matches thus far, had also registered his name for the draft in the previous edition. Alongside pacers Al Amin Hossain and Shafiul Islam, Ripon’s efforts in the previous draft bore no fruit as none of the teams opted to select them.

Taijul's Quest for Overseas Exposure

Taijul Islam, left-arm spinner extraordinaire, boasts an impressive record of 76 wickets in 93 T20 matches. However, he is yet to showcase his talent in a foreign franchise league. The Big Bash could provide him with the platform he deserves to shine on the international T20 scene.

Jahanara's Multi-Dimensional Experience

Jahanara Alam has been actively participating in various T20 leagues. She is a familiar face in the Fairbreak Invitational T20 League in Hong Kong and has also taken part in India’s Women’s T20 Challenge Velocity in 2020. Her diverse experience positions her as a valuable asset in the Big Bash’s women’s draft.

Paving the Way: Shakib Al Hasan's Legacy

While the Big Bash has garnered the attention of three Bangladeshi cricketers this time, it’s worth noting that Shakib Al Hasan remains the sole Bangladeshi player to have graced the league. His appearances in the 2014 edition saw him don the jerseys of both Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.

Cricket enthusiasts can gear up for the excitement of the upcoming Big Bash edition, scheduled to unfold from December 7 to January 24 next year.
