Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has once again experienced a recurrence of his back pain, casting doubts over his availability for the upcoming series against Afghanistan. During today’s practice session, Tamim batted at the nets with noticeable discomfort, signaling potential challenges for the left-hander.
After the team’s arrival at the hotel on Saturday, their training was further hindered by Friday’s rain. Upon returning to practice, Tamim, who had been advised to rest on Thursday, struggled during the fielding session alongside coach Shane McDermott. He displayed visible signs of pain, grimacing and clutching his back whenever he had to bend down to collect ground balls.
Shortly thereafter, Tamim ended his fielding session, expressing frustration and requesting the physiotherapist to step aside. While batting at the nets, he faced difficulties and even instructed the bowlers to deliver fuller-length deliveries to avoid exacerbating his back strain. Although his drives appeared smooth, shots played on the backfoot caused him discomfort. During a pull shot against spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Tamim once again felt pain in his back. These recent developments have raised concerns about his fitness and potential availability for the upcoming Afghanistan Test, which is just three days away.
