The Mumbai Indians made a big statement today, announcing that Shane Bond, a former fast bowler from New Zealand, has finished his incredible nine years as the team’s bowling coach. Since joining forces with MI in 2015, Bond played an instrumental role in clinching four IPL trophies. The 48-year-old also stepped down from his position as head coach of MI Emirates, a role he took on for the inaugural season of ILT20 earlier this year.

Expressing his thanks, Bond said:

“I would like to thank the Ambani family for the opportunity to be part of MI One Family for the last nine seasons. It has been an incredible journey, filled with countless cherished moments both on and off the field.”

He went on to acknowledge the invaluable relationship he formed with players and staff, expressing his heartfelt farewells.

“I want the best for their future and shall miss them all very much. Lastly, I would like to thank Mr. Paltan for their further help.”

Bond played an integral role in MI’s triumphs in the IPL seasons of 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. His expertise and guidance were pivotal in shaping the team’s success.

Bond’s decision to part ways with MI came after the five-time IPL champions appointed Lasith Malinga as their bowling coach for IPL 2024 in August this year. Malinga, who retired in 2021 and had a successful stint with MI as a player, had been associated with the Rajasthan Royals until this year.

During his tenure, Bond played a crucial role in nurturing young bowlers within the MI ranks. India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, credits Bond for instrumental contributions in shaping his skills during the formative stages of his career.
