In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is reportedly contemplating relinquishing his role as captain of the ODI team, a responsibility he took on just over a month ago.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had reinstated Shakib Al Hasan as the captain of the ODI squad in preparation for the Asia Cup 2023. He was also set to lead the team, known as the ‘Bangla Tigers,’ in the upcoming 50-over World Cup scheduled for October-November in India.

According to insider reports, Shakib has communicated to the BCB his decision not to lead the team in the prestigious World Cup event. Despite his injury, Tamim has been named in Bangladesh’s 15-member World Cup squad.

This is not the first instance of reported tension between these two prominent Bangladeshi cricketers.

Under Shakib’s captaincy, Bangladesh had a mixed performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup. They faced losses against Sri Lanka and Pakistan but managed to secure victories against Afghanistan and India, ultimately finishing third in the Super Four stage of the competition.
