With less than four months remaining before the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Indian team is facing fitness concerns regarding several key players who have been out of action due to various injuries.
Jasprit Bumrah, who underwent major surgery, has been sidelined from competitive cricket since September 25 of the previous year. There are recent reports suggesting that the right-arm pacer might make a comeback during the Ireland T20Is scheduled for August 2023.
Rishabh Pant, who was involved in an accident on New Year’s Eve, is currently undergoing rehabilitation, but there is no specific update on when he will regain full fitness and return to playing.
KL Rahul is another significant injury concern after he suffered a thigh injury during the IPL 2023, which led to surgery. He has recently returned to India and joined the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to initiate his recovery process.
Shreyas Iyer, who faced back issues, underwent surgery in April this year.
If Bumrah manages to return in August, it is highly likely that he will be included in India’s Asia Cup campaign. The tournament will serve as a platform to fine-tune their plans and preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
However, the big question remains: When will Rahul be ready to return?
A report in Cricbuzz suggests that Rahul might not recover in time to participate in the Asia Cup.
The ODI World Cup is scheduled for October-November in India, and the team led by Rohit Sharma is eager to end their ICC trophy drought since 2013 with a strong performance in the marquee event.
However, to achieve that goal, India will require all their star players to be fully fit and available for selection.
