A Stellar Career Culminating in Retirement

South Africa’s star batsman and wicket-keeper, Quinton de Kock, is set to bid farewell to One Day International (ODI) cricket following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023.

Having made his ODI debut in 2013, Quinton de Kock has been a formidable presence in South Africa’s ODI squad, amassing 5966 runs in 140 matches at an impressive average of 44.85 and a striking strike rate of 96.08. His ODI career boasts 17 centuries and 29 half-centuries, including a high score of 178 against Australia at Centurion in 2016. As a wicket-keeper, de Kock has been exceptional, recording 183 catches and 14 stumpings during his tenure.

The 30-year-old cricketer has been a consistent performer on the world stage, representing South Africa in the previous two editions of the Cricket World Cup. Over 17 matches, he contributed 450 runs at an average of 30. Additionally, de Kock had the honor of captaining South Africa in eight ODIs, securing victory in four of them.

Commenting on de Kock’s decision to retire from ODIs, Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe expressed his appreciation, saying, “Quinton de Kock has been a really good servant to South African cricket. He set the benchmark with his attacking batting style and was a key member of the squad for a number of years. He also wore the captain’s armband and that is an honor that very few people get to hold. We understand his decision to step back from ODI cricket and we want to thank him for his service over the years. We wish him well for the future but still look forward to seeing him represent the Proteas in T20I cricket.”
