Pakistan is on the verge of unveiling their 16-member Test squad in the next 48 hours for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka scheduled for July. Among the potential selections, there are a few promising prospects expected to receive their maiden Test call-up, namely Omair Yousuf and Mohammad Huraira. These young talents have displayed remarkable performances recently and are likely to be given an opportunity in the Test format.
Omair Yousuf, a 24-year-old batsman, made a tremendous impact during Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of Zimbabwe. He emerged as the leading run-scorer with an impressive tally of 348 runs from three innings, including an unbeaten 250, which happens to be his highest first-class score in the first four-day match. Similarly, Mohammad Huraira, with 24 first-class matches under his belt, finished second on the batting charts with 242 runs from two innings, boasting an exceptional average of 121. Their consistent displays have captured the attention of the selectors, making them strong contenders for a Test call-up.
Another player poised to make his Test debut is the all-rounder Aamir Jamal. His consistent performances in domestic cricket have earned him recognition, and he is expected to secure a place in the Test squad. In the meantime, veteran wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed and pacer Hassan Ali will retain their spots, providing valuable experience to the team.
However, a few players might face exclusion from the squad. Mir Hamza, Zahid Mahmood, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. are likely to be omitted from the Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka.
The training camp for the upcoming tour will be established in Karachi during the initial week of July. This camp will serve as an opportunity for players to hone their skills and prepare themselves for the challenges that lie ahead.
