The much-anticipated 1st Test match between India and West Indies will begin in Dominica on July 12, marking the beginning of the 2023-25 WTC cycle for both teams. The match is scheduled for a 10 am local time start, equivalent to 7.30 pm IST.
Following this test, a series of limited-overs matches are slated to occur in Barbados, Trinidad, and Guyana, including three ODIs and three T20Is. The series, which runs from July 12 to August 13, will conclude with the final two T20Is hosted in Florida, USA.
India, the reigning leaders in Test cricket, make a return to the international stage after a month, having last competed in the WTC 2023 final against Australia. Meanwhile, the West Indies, ranking eighth, are coming off a defeat in their last Test series against South Africa, where they lost both matches. Nevertheless, they did achieve victory against Zimbabwe in the Test series preceding that, particularly notable for their triumph in the second Test.
The West Indies team will introduce fresh faces for the upcoming series against India, with uncapped batsmen Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze joining the squad following their impressive form for the West Indies A team. Additionally, star all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall makes a return after a near two-year absence. The last Test encounter between the two teams took place in August 2019, with India securing a 2-0 series whitewash against the hosts.
On the Indian side, a full-strength team has been assembled for the West Indies series. Rohit Sharma continues his captaincy, supported by vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, with Virat Kohli also included in the team. Notably, Cheteshwar Pujara has been left out, while upcoming talents like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar have been called up by the BCCI.
