The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached a pivotal juncture by solidifying an agreement with Inzamam-ul-Haq, marked by the formal endorsement of a comprehensive three-year contract by the management committee.

A New Era: The formal announcement on August 7th by the PCB proclaimed Inzamam-ul-Haq as the Chief Selector, a role where he has already taken the reins in forming squads for the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka and the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023.

Negotiations concerning the tenure of his contract remain an ongoing process. Inzamam has underlined the significance of a prolonged tenure for the Chief Selector position, aiming to ensure consistent decision-making and the overall elevation of Pakistan cricket.

With a sustained commitment, there’s a strong likelihood that Inzamam will wholeheartedly invest his energies in this role, potentially placing it ahead of other engagements, including league commitments.

During an online meeting of the PCB management committee in Karachi on Sunday, Inzamam participated actively. In this meeting, the PCB acknowledged his contributions to cricket and reportedly formalized the offer for a structured three-year contract.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Inzamam may receive a monthly remuneration of Rs2 million, marking an interesting aspect of his contractual arrangement.

This move comes amidst a backdrop where recently retired cricketers show reticence toward positions with lower compensation from PCB. Their reluctance stems from the allure of lucrative prospects such as leagues and diverse avenues, creating challenges for the cricket board in enticing prominent figures.

Inzamam is scheduled to convene with Team Director Mickey Arthur, Head Coach Grant Bradburn, and skipper Babar Azam in Multan on Tuesday. These discussions will center on the composition of the squad for the upcoming World Cup.
