Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. That is why India-Pakistan has stopped playing bilateral series since 2012-13.
It has been a decade that India-Pakistan has not seen a match on the ground except in various tournaments of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
From talk shows on TV channels to tea shops, discussion and criticism have started around the most important match of the Asia Cup.
Regarding the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly said that the India-Pakistan match is a match of the Asia Cup. There is no reason to consider this match as Asia Cup. It’s like ten more games for me.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly also told Hindustan Times, “When we played, we used to think of the India-Pakistan match as any other match and always wanted to win the tournament. This time India is a good enough team, they are doing well. I hope the Indian team will continue their performance in the Asia Cup as well.
Incidentally, India is the most successful team in the Asia Cup. In the ODI and T20 editions of this tournament, India has won eight out of a total of 14 matches they have faced against Pakistan and lost in five. A match did not result.
