I don’t see Mahmudullah Riyad in the World Cup squad: Sujon
Ireland were not in the series at home. Not coming in the three-match series against Ireland in London in May, including the ICC ODI Super League. Former T20 team captain Mahmudullah Riyad’s international career has come to a full stop?
Especially when there is an ODI World Cup this year, not having someone as experienced as Mahmudullah in the team is a big question. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and head of game development Khaled Mahmud Sujan said that he does not see Mahmudullah in the World Cup team. His argument is that if Mahmudullah was considered for the World Cup, he would have been in the squad for these series.
“(Mahmudullah) Riyad is definitely an important player for us. He witnessed many performances of Bangladesh team. A lot of matches are won. To be honest, since Riyad is not in the national team, if I say so, I don’t see him in the World Cup team. If I had seen Riyad in the World Cup team, he would have been in these series. The World Cup is not long.
On Thursday (April 27) at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla World Cricket Stadium, Sujan told reporters in a question about Mahmudullah’s future.
Sujan, who has been the team director of the Bangladesh team for quite some time, does not know what is the plan of the team management regarding Mahmudullah. “As I am not in the national team, I do not know the plan. I don’t even want to know what the selection is going on. See what is happening in the media.
Mahmudullah was last in the ODI series against England at home. 71 runs came from his bat in three matches of that series. Apart from this, he could not give his best in fielding.
The catch is missed. Mahmudullah has been rested to prepare a substitute, said selector Habibul Bashar, who was not available against the Irish at home. Tawheed Hridiya is performing instead. For this it is becoming more difficult to get Mahmudullah’s opportunity.
Sujan said, ‘Hridoy is doing well there, Afif is also out of the team now, Mushfiq is also doing well. It is a matter of seeing how Riyad matches itself in the Super League matches.
“All in all, we have to consider the current situation, how much Riyad is needed in our team or whether those who are playing in his place are able to perform or not.” If they perform and the team is satisfied, Riyad will have little chance. If not, Riyad has experience, we all believe that he can perform at any time if backed.
There is time, Riyadh is completely out of it, added Sujan.
Mahmudullah now has only one chance to prove himself in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL). However, playing for Mohammedan in the first round, the bat of this cricketer did not smile properly. He scored 284 runs in 11 matches at an average of 28.40. 3 fifties, highest run 71. There is a Super League ahead, can Mahmudullah outdo himself here?
