Bangladesh spin bowling coach Rangana Herath anticipates a challenging World Cup campaign for the team’s spinners, citing the conditions in India as the main factor. During a two-day camp at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Herath worked with the spinners in the national set-up and the BCB High Performance unit to focus on variations and tactics for both white-ball and red-ball cricket.
According to Herath, preparing in advance is crucial given the expected difficulties spinners may face in unresponsive pitches. He emphasized the importance of developing different techniques such as creating angles, utilizing over-the-wicket and round-the-wicket bowling, varying pace, and mastering deliveries like the cross-seam and carrom ball.
Additionally, Herath expressed the desire to cultivate all-round skills in the team’s batsmen to provide more options in the bowling department. He highlighted the example of Nazmul Hossain Shanto, a top-order batter who played a crucial role with his off-spin in Bangladesh’s recent series victory against Ireland. Herath encouraged the involvement of players like Shanto and Towhid Hridoy in bowling to enhance the team’s flexibility and achieve the right balance.
