Rejoining the Cricket Fraternity

This opportunity comes almost two years after Gale was removed from his role as the head coach at Yorkshire County Cricket Club (CCC) during a sweeping staff overhaul led by former chairman Lord Kamlesh Patel. Among those who left the club, Gale and others reached settlements with Yorkshire after the club acknowledged that the dismissals were procedurally unfair.

Announcing His New Role

Andrew Gale took to LinkedIn to share the news of his new position, stating, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Male High Performance Pathway Head Coach at Cricket Tasmania.”

Many former Yorkshire players and officials took to social media to congratulate Gale on his return to cricket. Notable figures like Ajmal Shahzad, Jack Brooks, Colin Graves, and Steve Denison offered their best wishes and support for his new role.

A New Chapter After Yorkshire

Following his departure from Yorkshire, where he had twice led the team to victory in the County Championship, Gale ventured into a joinery firm. He staunchly denied the racism allegations made by Azeem Rafiq, whom he had played a role in bringing back to Yorkshire in 2016 after Rafiq’s departure two years earlier.

In a statement released last summer, Gale emphasized his denial of the accusations, stating, “For the avoidance of any doubt, I deny each and every allegation that Azeem raised with YCCC and then via the ECB suggesting that I have used racist language and bullied Azeem.”

Navigating Challenges

In the aftermath of Rafiq’s claims, Gale received a four-week suspension from coaching, which would be enforced if he were to return to ECB-regulated cricket as a coach. Additionally, he was fined £6,000.

It’s worth noting that several of the 16 Yorkshire staff members who were let go have found new roles in cricket, indicating their return to the sport. Among them is Kunwar Bansil, the former lead physiotherapist of British-Asian descent, who currently works at Nottinghamshire. Bansil stated that he had never been aware of any racism or complaints of racism during his time at Yorkshire and regarded the sackings as “unfair, disproportionate, and completely immoral.”
