Australia tour of England, 2018
Already 2-0 down, Australia will have to do all the running come the third one-day international at Trent Bridge in Nottingham if they have to stay alive in the five-match series.
Australia have fought hard in both matches, but their bowlers and batsmen haven’t fired together. In the first game, they were bowled out for 214 but they fought hard to pick up seven wickets before the home side crossed the line. In the second, the bowlers conceded lots of runs as England piled 342/8. This time, Shaun Marsh led a strong chase but Australia stopped at 304.
Key players
Jos Buttler (England): The England wicket-keeper batsman has been in delightful form across formats in the past few months. Leading the side in the second game, Buttler smashed a whirlwind 91* to take his side to a formidable score. He hit eight fours and two sixes during his knock and will look to carry on with his good run come the third ODI as well.
Shaun Marsh (Australia): The left-hander vindicated his selection by scoring a century after almost five years in ODIs. Marsh looked in sublime touch during his 131 and if he can follow it up with another good knock, it will stand Australia in good stead.
Conditions
The weather in Nottingham is likely to hold up nicely for the third ODI and if history is anything to go by, another high-scoring affair is in the offing. The last completed 50-over game at this ground saw England rack up 444/3 against Pakistan, the highest score in the history of ODIs, and the surface is expected to be a batting paradise yet again.
