Team India had a terrible campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. Despite being a strong side, the ‘Men in Blue’ could not make it to the group stage and were ousted from the global showpiece event.

Now under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India will be aiming to shift the fortunes in the upcoming edition of the 20-over showcase, which is set to take place from October 16 to November 13 in Australia.

There is no doubt India will also be focusing on finding the right combination they failed to do in the previous season. Speaking about the same, former India captain, Sunil Gavaskar has picked a player who could come in as a perfect finisher for T20 World Cup.

Gavaskar has named senior cricketer Dinesh Karthik to make a comeback to the Indian side even before the T20 World Cup. The Mumbaikar reckoned that Karthik should return in the home series against South Africa and the tour to England.

“The way the IPL is going for him at the moment, I do believe he should be very much in the running for the India spot in the October tournament, maybe even earlier for South Africa, for England, I do believe he should be earlier in the team,” said Gavaskar as quoted by Sports Today.

Gavaskar said he would consider Karthik for the No. 6 or 7 slot. Notably, Karthik is in the form of his life in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, playing the finisher’s role quite successfully for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He is RCB’s second highest run-scorer this season, with 274 runs in 12 matches. The eye-catching thing, however, is his striker rate, which is 200.

“I would definitely look at him as a batter who can come in at No. 6 or No. 7 like he is doing for RCB and take the game away from the opposition,” Gavaskar added.
