Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a 15-man squad for their upcoming one-off Test against Bangladesh, with star leg-spinner Rashid Khan being absent due to injury.
Rashid’s injury woes have prevented him from participating in the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) of the series against Sri Lanka. Although he did play in the third ODI, the ACB decided not to include him in the Test squad.
Another notable absence in the squad is wrist spinner Nur Ahmed, who made an impression in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a result, Afghanistan will rely on a relatively inexperienced bowling attack during their tour to Dhaka.
Left-arm spinner Amir Hamza, left-arm wrist spinner Zahir Khan, and uncapped 19-year-old leg-spinner Izharullah Haq Naveed will lead Afghanistan’s spin attack against Bangladesh.
Led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghan team is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on June 10. Following a three-day training camp, the one-off Test will commence at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on June 14.
After the Test, the Afghanistan team will return home. However, they will come back to Bangladesh next month for a three-match ODI series and two Twenty20 matches.
