The final of this year’s Indian Premier League is just around the corner. Delhi Capitals is currently at the top of the ladder with 10 wins out of 13 matches. They are followed by Chennai Super Kings with 9 wins out of 14 matches and Royal Challenger Bangalore with eight wins out of 13 matches. The final of the VIVO 2021 IPL is set on October 15 and fans are looking forward to seeing how this season will conclude as this may be the last time they will see the IPL with just eight teams.
The 2022 edition of the IPL is set to have two new teams as already confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tender documents for the team bidding will be available until October 10 and today, there is still no official release on who the bidders will be.
While the IPL 2021 final and the new teams for the next season are the talks of the town, people are already speculating on how players are doing and whether they will still be seen playing next year. Will MS Dhoni Still Be Part of the CSK Next Year?
Cricket superstar MS Dhoni who is the only captain in history to win all ICC trophies has been recently the talk of cricket enthusiasts. Not long ago, Dhoni has made it seem obvious that this will not be his last season as a player but he recently made a comment that make people think otherwise.
During the toss between CSK and Punjab Kings on Thursday, Dhoni was asked about his future with CSK. His response was: “Well, you can see me in yellow, but whether I’ll be playing for CSK there are a lot of uncertainties around it for a simple reason that we have two new teams coming up.
“We don’t know the retention policy. We don’t know how many foreigners, Indian players we can retain, the money cap that every player will be cutting from the kitty. So, there are a lot of uncertainties. Unless the rules are in place you can’t really decide that. We will wait for it to happen and hopefully, it will be good for everyone.”
With this response, people are speculating that this might be the last IPL season for him as a CSK player. However, he may not leave the team and just take up a new role instead. This is what former Australia and CSK player Shane Watson is also thinking after hearing what Dhoni said.
Watson talked to Star Sports and said, “Hearing that answer from MS to me was very different to the answer he gave last year where he was very confident that yes, he will definitely be back. Hearing him sort of talk about things such as let us see what happens at the auction and all the different sorts of permutations with two new teams coming in, that for me more so suggests that he will be in yellow still but potentially not as a player and more as a mentor, which still is a huge role in the franchise.”
If Dhoni will no longer play but still be part of the squad, he may take the role of a mentor. After all, he has already been appointed as Team India’s cricket mentor for the T20 World Cup. It’s not far off that this could also be his role on the next IPL season.
Warner’s Cryptic Instagram Post
Another thing that cricket fans are talking about is the lack of David Warner on this IPL season. Many were hoping to see him on the field before the season ends but Sunrisers Hyderabad coach staff were clear that they are focusing on giving youngsters more opportunities.
SRH coach Trever Bayliss made this comment after the team won against Rajasthan Royals. Bayliss also spoke about Warner and said, “We can’t make the final so have made a decision that we want the young players to experience not just the matches but time at the ground, around the set-up, and for this match, we made the decision. He was not the only experienced player we left back at the hotel.
“We have got to sit down in a day or two and pick a team and pick a squad of 18. That’s just the way it is. Dave is obviously watching the game back in the hotel and giving the guys support. It is the same as everyone else. We are all in this together.
“Look that certainly has not been discussed. It is something that…this is the last year before a major auction. Those decisions will be made further down the line. He has been a great contributor to Hyderabad Sunrisers for a number of years now. He is very well respected with the number of runs he has scored. I am sure he has got a lot more runs in him yet in the IPL.”
Still, fans feel like Warner isn’t getting what he deserves. Speculations that there is more to it than just giving youngsters more shots rose when Warner posted something on Instagram and said, “It’s not about who is real to your face, it`s about who stays real behind your back.” The post included a few thumbs up and is followed by a short video of him watching the game between SRH and CSK on TV.
Fans are saying that if the coaching staff are after nourishing their young talents, Warner being on the field would make more sense because of the player’s rich experience.
