Sri Lanka will be down on confidence as they were completely dominated by South Africa in the test series.
A lot of big names will be missing from the South African lineup which could result in a drop in their performance.
Sri Lanka are struggling in T20 format, losing 13 of their last 16 matches and are on a six-match losing streak. They Will try harder to win this match.
Most of their regular players including the T20I skipper Faf du Plessis have been rested for the first two matches. All-rounder Farhaan Behardien will be leading a squad consisting of six uncapped players – Theunis de Bruyn, Jon-Jon Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Mangaliso Mosehle, Lungi Ngidi and Dane Paterson.
Farhaan Behardien and David Miller will hold the key with the bat in an inexperienced South African lineup. Behardien had finished as the third-highest run-scorer in this year’s CSA T20 Challenge and we predict him to continue his good form. Seamers Andile Phehlukwayo, Wayne Parnell and spinner Imran Tahir will be the biggest challenge for the Sri Lankan batsmen at the Centurion.
South Africa have played nine T20Is since 2016 of which they have won five and lost four. They have not been in their best of forms in this format, winning only two from their last six matches. The Proteas won their first two T20Is at the SuperSport Park before losing the next three in a row.
South Africa Predicted XI
DA Miller, F Behardien (c), KJ Abbott, AM Phangiso, Imran Tahir, Andile Phehlukwayo, Wayne Parnell, JJ Smuts, Mangaliso Mosehle, Theunis de Bruyn and Reeza Hendricks.
Uncapped player Thikshila de Silva (batting allrounder) and spinner Lakshan Sandakan have been picked for the T20I series. Seekkuge Prasanna has been replaced by legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Pace bowlers Nuwan Kulasekara and Isuru Udana have also been named in the 15-member squad.
Skipper Angelo Mathews and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Chandimal are the two important members in Sri Lanka’s batting lineup. Both are seasoned campaigners and are among the leading run-getters for the team in T20 format. Pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara has taken 56 T20I wickets which is the third-highest by a Sri Lankan in this format. We therefore predict him to put up a good show with the ball in this match.
Sri Lanka are struggling in this shortest version of the game. They have played 16 T20Is since last year and have managed to register wins in just three of them. They have faced defeats in their last six matches which includes the most recent 0-2 loss at the hands of Australia back at home.
Sri Lanka Predicted XI
Angelo Mathews (c), Dinesh Chandimal (wk), DM de Silva, Kusal Mendis, Sachith Pathirana, Seekkuge Prasanna, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lakshan Sandakan, Thikshila de Silva and Danushka Gunathilaka.
